Europe dividing money 50-50 with rest of the world
Confirmation expected after Fifa meeting in October
Europe’s top-flight clubs will share half of the $250m (£185m) solidarity pot from the Club World Cup last year, ending a saga that had caused widespread frustration among those who did not participate in the tournament.
Fifa and European Football Clubs (EFC) are close to an agreement that would bring a 50-50 split between sides in Europe and the rest of the world. The fund, set aside to ensure the competition contributes to football’s wider ecosystem, will be distributed once the deal has been ratified.
